Lima Wetlands Birdwatching Experience

Experience one of Lima’s most important coastal wetlands through a carefully guided birdwatching adventure.

Your morning begins with an early 6:00 am hotel pick-up, allowing us to arrive at Pantanos de Villa during peak bird activity. Accompanied by a professional local guide, you will spend approximately 3 hours exploring the reserve, learning to identify a wide variety of resident and migratory bird species while gaining insight into their behavior and habitats.

After the guided experience, you’ll have additional time to slow down and enjoy the wetlands at your own pace. This is the perfect moment for photography, quiet observation, or even an optional boat ride for a different perspective. A relaxed break for coffee or a light snack allows you to fully take in the peaceful surroundings.

We return to your hotel at around 1:00 pm, bringing to a close a rewarding morning immersed in birdlife and nature.

What Species You Might See

  • Various species of herons and egrets, commonly seen along the water edges

  • The elegant Black-necked Stilt, easily recognized by its long red legs

  • Andean Coots and other waterfowl moving through the lagoons

  • Peruvian Thick-knee, often spotted resting on open ground

  • Many species of gulls and terns along the coastal areas

  • Raptors such as hawks and kestrels occasionally seen hunting above the wetlands

  • A wide range of migratory shorebirds, especially during the migration season​​

 

With its unique mix of habitats, Pantanos de Villa offers excellent opportunities to observe both common and more specialized species in a relatively small area.

What to Bring: Binoculars and a camera are recommended for better wildlife viewing.

Tour Schedule – Pantanos de Villa

  • 6:00 am – Hotel pick-up

  • 7:00 am – Arrival and start of guided birdwatching experience

  • 10:00 am – End of guided tour

  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Free time for photography, wildlife observation, optional boat ride, and a coffee/snack break

  • 12:00 pm – Departure from Pantanos de Villa

  • 1:00 pm – Arrival back at your hotel
